The Jaguar E type, a cult classic and one of the most iconic sports cars ever made.
It was first launched in 1961 and was responsible for setting the sports car image of the Jaguar brand. Over 70 thousand E types were produced between 1961 and 1975, establishing it as one of the most successful sports coupes of its time.
Thee type jaguar for sale was designed by Malcom Sayer who applied his background in aircraft design to create a sports car which was faster than a normal road car and yet more beautiful. Its aerodynamic body, independent rear suspension and monocoque construction were all advanced for the time.
But the E-type was still more than just a race car and the design team were also given the task of creating a road going sports car that would replace the XK150. This was to be done using D-Type style construction but a new chassis and body.
A Look Inside the Engine of the Jaguar E-Type
There were two prototypes of this car. The first was a Cotswold Blue open car registered 77 RW and it was being used in test at MIRA. The second was a roadster with a chassis number 850003 and it was being used to prepare it for Geneva where it was going to be unveiled.
Norman Dewis was given the job of testing the 850001 in preparation for it’s launch. He and Bob Berry had to drive it through the night in order to get to Geneva for the unveiling on 15 March. It was an amazing feat and the press were left reeling.
